Water is one of the most prolific causes of property damage both internally and externally; if this water is not properly channelled away from the structure the effects can be devastating.
Failure to keep your guttering clean will result in leaves and various other forms of debris building up to create blockages and sagging gutters that will cause damage and will have to be replaced.
Gutter Maintenance
Guttering and roofing both require regular maintenance in order to provide the necessary protection throughout the year. Roof damage is sometimes obvious to spot and repair, but blocked guttering is very often left unchecked until after the damage is done.
Neglecting this essential maintenance can result in insect infestation, fungal growth and dry rot. Once this has occurred is can be extremely costly to put right and cause major disruption to your family life.
Clean out your gutters before they clean out your wallet!
How to Clean Your Gutters
It’s very easy to keep your guttering clean, functional and secure (as long as you don`t mind heights).
- Use a ladder to access your guttering – do not use the guttering as a support at any stage or you could cause damage to your home.
- Gently brush away debris – do not let this fall down the downpipe as it could cause a blockage.
- Rinse the gutters with a hose or jet wash to clear any remaining debris.
- Flush any remaining items down the downpipes as it won’t be large enough to block the pipe at this late stage. Use the highest water pressure now to ensure everything is clean and clear.
Remember to do this at least 2-3 times per year, just after summer, just after autumn, and again before the spring.
