What do you do when you have to cancel your dream holiday because of the pandemic? The answer: fulfil another dream and give your house a makeover instead!
That was the choice facing our clients in Cheshunt, Hertfordshire when Covid-19 put paid to their plans for a holiday in San Francisco. They had also wanted to update their property, after living there for over 20 years, so this seemed the right time to do it.
The 1970s bungalow was looking a bit dated, as any house would after 50 years. In those days replacement aluminium windows were just being introduced to the market and Formica kitchen worktops were thought to be cutting edge.
New Cladding Colour
Things have moved on since then and Summit were delighted to advise our clients on the full range of maintenance-free Hardieplank cladding they could choose from. James Hardie have just introduced a new colour to their range – Pearl Grey – and that was the one they fell in love with.
Summit began the installation by removing the 1970s style coloured brick slabs on the outside wall that were starting to come away, risking damp penetration. A breathable vapour barrier was then attached to the wall, followed by the new cladding, uPVC soffits and fascias and LED spotlights.
Dormer Windows cladding
With the wall completed, we switched our attention to the dormer windows and removed all the original timber cladding, replacing it with the same Pearl Grey Hardieplank.
Our clients still can’t believe how their home has been transformed, from an ordinary 1970s bungalow into a bright new-look 2020s property, drawing regular compliments from the neighbours.
Maybe losing the holiday to San Francisco wasn’t so bad after all … thanks to Summit Cladding.
