Summit Cladding is always pleased to receive a new order from a previous customer – we see it as a vote of confidence in our workmanship and the durability of our materials.
We were therefore delighted to be contacted again by Mark and Jane from their home at Buckhurst Hill in Essex. Three years ago, we replaced the gutters, fascias and soffits on their link-detached house, and now they wanted some advice on what to do with the front wall.
Mark was very skilled at DIY and had renovated the entire property inside, but he admitted that he didn’t fancy tackling that outside wall!
Having worked with our clients before, we remembered how meticulous they were with the detail, so we wanted to provide a service that would match their hard work indoors.
Preparing the wall for cladding
The front wall had a somewhat dated 1950s look, complete with mock louvred shutters on either side of the top windows. And when the old windows were replaced, the existing render was damaged, leaving cracks around the frames.
Our first task, then, was to repair the defective render, before covering the wall with a breathable vapour barrier, held in place by treated timber battens. Next came a stainless steel vented trim to allow a continuous flow of air behind the cladding.
James Hardie cladding comes in a wide variety of styles and colours and our clients decided that Arctic White would fit the bill. With a new pair of lights on each side of the front door, Mark and Jane now have a striking new look to their home that is the envy of all the neighbours.
