Maintenance free Millboard cladding
Who doesn’t love the look and feel of real timber? Here at Summit Cladding clients often ask us how much maintenance would be required if they opted for natural wood cladding on the side of their house. But when they’re advised of the regular upkeep needed, they generally opt for something that looks like the real thing but requires zero maintenance.
On this job in Stratford, East London, we were working with an amazing product called board and batten “Envello” cladding by Millboard. It’s hand-crafted, made from polyurethane resin, not plastic, and resists all the problems affecting natural timber, such as warping and splintering. What’s more, the several different colours offered will never fade.
Best contemporary look
All in all, then, a brilliant product, and the choice was made even easier for our client – the owner of a design and build construction company – because he’d worked with Millboard as a decking material. Together we agreed that the best contemporary look for his house would be a mix of vertical and horizontal cladding.
Installing the cladding
We started by fitting Kingspan fire-rated insulation between the house wall and the new cladding to improve energy efficiency and reduce fuel bills.
Our client’s colour of choice was burnt oak, which has an amazing distinctive grain. Even up close you’d be hard pressed to tell it from the real thing.
Finally, the window sills were extended in hardwood and painted to match the frames.
The result is a masterpiece of maintenance-free craftsmanship cladding and a visual transformation of the property, which has delighted our client and earned him the envy of his neighbours!
