There’s no better recommendation for Summit Cladding than when clients say they are so happy with our work that they will present their house as a show home for other customers. That’s what happened after our visit to High Wycombe in Buckinghamshire, where former inventor Renny asked us to find a solution to his cladding problems. Renny had spent his working life inventing household products designed to make our lives easier. But now it was his turn to ask for help, to reduce the stress of home maintenance. Timber boards had distorted We have written on this blog in the past about so-called waney edge timber cladding boards which look fine when first nailed on, but eventually twist and distort... Many of us dream of living by the seaside. Perhaps you already do, in which case the topic of this blog might be familiar to you. The salty sea air is healthy and invigorating for us humans, but it can be a nightmare for buildings. Summit Cladding travelled to Bognor Regis on the West Sussex coast, to meet clients who moved there 20 years ago and were facing a losing battle against the elements. They had spent a small fortune fighting salt corrosion, replacing fascias and gutters with PVC and constantly repainting the outside of the house with special durable paint. Coastal cladding challenge After my initial consultation with our clients, I approached James Hardie’s technical department to discuss the... View Article

There was something really striking about this recent makeover by Summit Cladding. We are talking colour – a rich and vibrant blue that you don’t see very often on the side of buildings. Summit had been contacted by a client who lives in this 1960s terraced townhouse in St Albans, Hertfordshire. He wanted to replace the existing coloured panels with our durable Hardieplank, but they had to be exactly the same colour as the originals. The reason was that each of the houses in the estate had their own distinctive colour scheme. As well as our client’s blue, the other houses were coloured black, red, and even mustard yellow. Unique character The houses were very much a product of the... View Article

Here at Summit Cladding we pride ourselves on going the extra mile for our clients – not just in what we do for them but how far we travel as well! Out to the leafy lanes of Surrey for this latest job, where a charming lady was looking for our help and expertise. The client had recently moved into a delightful bungalow in Godalming. The setting was perfect and very picturesque, but some of the alterations to the property done by previous owners left a lot to be desired. The workmanship and detail showed that corners had been cut, so it was our job to sort it out for the new owner. Dark timber to be removed The main thing... View Article

Just imagine how nice it would be to get rid of all those dirty old paint brushes in the garage and never have to buy another tin of paint. With Summit Cladding, that becomes a reality. We were contacted by clients near Rickmansworth, Hertfordshire, who were fed up with the constant round of painting and renovating their wooden bargeboards, fascias and soffits. It’s a laborious job at the best of times, and not without danger standing at the top of a ladder. And if you hire a contractor every few years it doesn’t come cheap. Fit and Forget Our clients were renovating their substantial and attractive property and wanted to retain the period features, so Summit’s solution was to fit... View Article

This was a very unusual project for Summit Cladding and one with its own unique set of challenges from the start. The targets were three superb penthouse flats in the heart of Chelsea, one of the most desirable parts of London. But they sat on the sixth floor of a residential block just off the Kings Road, and the question of how to get the materials up there caused a bit of head-scratching. Our initial inspection of the penthouses had revealed the problem that Summit was tasked to fix: fascias and soffits made of plywood that had been badly affected by the weather. Water penetration damage The big disadvantage of plywood is that, over time, water can start to penetrate... View Article

Summit Cladding is often called to the rescue by homeowners when things go wrong with their walls. And number One on that list of problems is cracked render. Now, render can be a good thing. It can extend the life of a brick or breezeblock wall, it can add a layer of insulation and stop damp penetration. But the problems start when the render cracks and lets in moisture. Cracking, bulging and flaking are all telltale signs that water has got in and frost damage has done the rest. Summit recommended This is what faced our clients at their home in Theydon Bois, Essex when they came to Summit Cladding for a solution, after being recommended by a friend we... View Article

What do you do when you have to cancel your dream holiday because of the pandemic? The answer: fulfil another dream and give your house a makeover instead! That was the choice facing our clients in Cheshunt, Hertfordshire when Covid-19 put paid to their plans for a holiday in San Francisco. They had also wanted to update their property, after living there for over 20 years, so this seemed the right time to do it. The 1970s bungalow was looking a bit dated, as any house would after 50 years. In those days replacement aluminium windows were just being introduced to the market and Formica kitchen worktops were thought to be cutting edge. New Cladding Colour Things have moved on... Seeing our showroom at the nurseries was a “lightbulb moment” and after talking to us they knew they’d found the right place. People say that you can find anything on the internet if you know where to look. Our latest clients, Bob and Jo from Biggleswade in Bedfordshire, did just that and managed to find Summit Cladding very quickly. They knew what they wanted their house makeover to look like, so they searched on Pinterest, the site that allows users to find ideas from photos and other images. And when they saw pictures of work done by Summit Cladding, they knew they had found what they were looking for. Before the lockdown Bob and Jo contacted us in early March, before the start of the coronavirus lockdown, so there was no problem going to their house for a consultation over a cup... View Article
