Replacement Timber ‘Accoya’ Cladding

The pundits say that football is a game of two halves – well how about this for a house of two halves? At the front, a traditional Edwardian-style property. At the back, something altogether more modern and futuristic.

Summit was called to this house in Croydon, south London, where the owner introduced us to Accoya Timber Cladding, a product we confess we hadn’t heard of before – and what a lovely new look it is! Our client had the cladding fitted some time ago but asked us to come round and carry out some vital replacement and adjustments to the way it had been installed, including improvements to ventilation.

Traditional and adventurous designs

The reason for the “house of two halves” appearance was that the local authority insisted the front should match the Edwardian period look of the other houses in the road, as it’s a conservation area and the rules are strict. But the developer was allowed to be more adventurous round the back.

Although that area is restricted in size, the unique design ensured that maximum natural light entered the property from every angle through glass doors, floor to ceiling panels and roof lights – all beautifully set off by the Accoya Timber Cladding.

Natural and durable material

Accoya is a modified cladding in which the wood is infused with a non-toxic chemical that makes the wood stable and resistant to shrinking and decay. For the technically-minded, Accoya is acetylated Radiata Pine, a natural material which, the manufacturers say, has the performance characteristics of the most durable tropical hardwoods. It also boasts a very long warranty, meaning that it will keep costs down with extended maintenance periods.

After ensuring that all the required adjustments had been made to the installation, Summit used a specialist water-based paint called Teknos, available in many different shades, to give the cladding a finishing touch while maintaining the natural look of quality timber.

Our client was delighted with the work and pleased that the Accoya cladding was fitted to the manufacturer’s guidelines.
